Emitel was awarded the prestigious Smart City Award for its implementation of an intelligent parking availability monitoring system at Katowice-Pyrzowice Airport (KTW). The competition jury appreciated the scale of the project – it is one of the largest Internet of Things (IoT) projects implemented in Poland dedicated to facilities serving international public transport. The state-of-the-art solution developed by Emitel has great potential for adaptation at other airports or car parks in the country.
As part of the contract, Emitel implemented an innovative smart parking management system using the Internet of Things (IoT) technology at the newly built P4 Car Park at Katowice International Airport in Pyrzowice. The system included the installation of 760 parking sensors compatible with the LPWAN communication protocol, which enable automatic and remote measurement of parking space occupancy. This provides motorists with 10 information boards indicating vacant spaces in individual aisles and three boards indicating the general availability of spaces in the car park.
“I am very pleased with the award to Emitel for the implementation for the “Katowice” airport in Pyrzowice. This shows an appreciation of our smart Internet of Things solutions, which we are implementing in partnership with many cities and businesses across the country. As part of the development of this business line of the company, we are providing customers with networks to implement solutions that can primarily benefit users, as well as gather valuable information and statistics. I am pleased that we were able to contribute to raising the standards of passenger service at one of Poland’s most important airports, and at the same time to be recognised by the chapter of one of the most important industry plebiscites in Poland, confirming our position as a leader in the provision of advanced technological solutions,” said Maciej Staszak, Vice President of the Management Board of Emitel S.A.
We have seen an increasing number of projects recently that not only enable efficiency improvements, but also improve quality for users and support environmental objectives. Innovative solutions allow the potential of technology to be utilised in the development of smart solutions (Smart City / IoT). Internet of Things technologies are central to their emergence. Modern cities or, for example, airports need to be environmentally friendly as well as friendly to their inhabitants and users. The solutions prepared by Emitel are in line with the challenges faced by cities, institutions and companies in Poland today.
The Smart City Awards Poland competition aims to recognise personalities and ventures that have made a significant contribution to building smart solutions in Poland, as well as companies implementing this idea. The awards are addressed to representatives of both the business sector and the local administration, who contribute to an increased competitiveness of Polish cities, economy and businesses through implemented projects, with the use of innovative solutions and management strategies. This is the third time that Emitel has received this prestigious award; in previous years, the competition’s jury appreciated, in turn, the system for remote reading of parameters from water meters for the municipal water and sewerage company (Miejskie Przedsiębiorstwo Wodociągów i Kanalizacji) in Wrocław and the implementation of a group of Smart City solutions in the Piaseczno Municipality.
