The Digital Terrestrial Television offer is growing. 2 September 2024 on channel 52. a new news and current affairs station, wPolsce24, will make its début in the eighth multiplex (MUX-8) of the digital terrestrial television. Republika began broadcasting on MUX-8 in July. Thus, MUX-8 has achieved the full use of the available spots.

Channel wPolsce24, owned by the publisher of the weekly magazine ‘Sieci’ and the website wPolityce.pl, will broadcast around the clock, offering a wide range of news and current affairs programmes. The broadcast programming will include the main edition of ‘Wiadomości’ at 7.30 pm, morning broadcast times and evening debates with well-known journalists and guests.

‘The launch of the new channels is primarily good news for viewers. Achieving full use of the available space on MUX-8 underlines the importance of the terrestrial television platform in Poland’, said Maciej Staszak, Vice President of the Management Board of Emitel S.A.

MUX-8, already complete, will offer viewers a rich range of programs.

With the addition of wPolsce24, all available spots on this multiplex will be filled. Viewers nationwide will gain access to an even wider range of channels and interactive services on HBBTV.

Currently, MUX-8 includes the following channels:

39 – Zoom TV (Kino Polska Group)

40 – Nowa TV (Polsat Plus Group)

MUX-8 operates on 74 transmitters spread across the country, in the VHF band (174-230 MHz) and in the DVB-T/MPEG-4 standard. In December 2023, Emitel applied for an amendment to the reservation decision regarding the broadcasting standard, aiming to change the broadcasting standard to DVB-T2/HEVC, which will enable HD broadcasting. The submitted application is currently under consideration by the Office of Electronic Communications (UKE).

In addition, Emitel has applied to the UKE for a frequency reservation for a new TV multiplex. The launch of MUX-5 will enable further enrichment of the terrestrial television offer.

‘Seeing the strong interest from broadcasters, we are confident that the available frequencies on MUX-5 will meet with equally strong interest. Our plans to potentially obtain MUX-5 frequency reservations and expand the broadcast network are in line with the growing demand for a variety of TV content on the terrestrial TV platform’, added Maciej Staszak.
