Emitel has won the competition held by the Office of Electronic Communications (UKE) for the reservation of frequencies for the construction of MUX-5, a new digital terrestrial television multiplex. The company’s bid received the maximum possible score from the competition committee.
The new multiplex will offer eight free-to-air television channels in HD quality, as well as state-of-the-art multimedia services based on HbbTV technology. Broadcasters will be able to reach virtually every citizen of the country with their television signal. For viewers, the new multiplex means an expanded range of free terrestrial television programming.
“The outcome of the competition confirms that our experience, the quality of our offering and the scale of our investment in broadcasting infrastructure meet the needs of the market. We would like to thank the Committee for its thorough assessment. We are ready to implement the project and to create new opportunities for broadcasters and viewers across the country,” said Maciej Pilipczuk, President of the Management Board of Emitel.
Following the Committee’s evaluation, Emitel’s bid was awarded 260.000 points. MWE Teleport (183.769 points) and BCAST (133.219 points) took the subsequent places.
“As a multiplex operator, we are an independent entity with no ties to any media group. Our experience in building and managing digital infrastructure, together with the highest standards of the services we provide, is reflected in the positive assessments of market regulators,” added Maciej Pilipczuk.
The new multiplex will operate in the DVB-T2/HEVC standard, ensuring high picture and sound quality. Ultimately, the multiplex will cover 95% of Poland’s territory. For many years, Emitel has provided the infrastructure that enables television and radio signals to be received in every household in Poland. The company will take further steps towards obtaining the frequency reservation and launching MUX-5 in accordance with the anticipated reservation decision.
